Jätkänkämppä Lumberjack Lodge & Smoke Sauna

Jätkänkämppä Lumberjack Lodge, an authentic lumberjack lodge from the 1950s, is located by Lake Kallavesi, just 600 metres from Spa Hotel Rauhalahti in Kuopio.

The lodge is home to one of Finland’s largest traditional smoke saunas. Together, the lodge and the smoke sauna offer a unique experience that brings Finnish sauna culture and the history of lumberjacks to life.

A smoke sauna (savusauna) is the oldest form of Finnish sauna. It is heated with wood for several hours without a chimney, allowing the smoke to fill the sauna room before it is ventilated. This traditional heating method creates the sauna’s distinctive soft heat, deep warmth and characteristic aroma.

Groups can reserve the smoke sauna privately on request. Private bookings are not available on evenings when public smoke sauna events are organised.

During the sauna experience guests can:

* relax on the covered lakeside terrace

* cool off in the fresh outdoor air

* swim in Lake Kallavesi

* try ice swimming in winter

Sauna bathing in a smoke sauna is an unhurried experience. Guests typically enjoy several rounds of sauna, cooling down outdoors in between while admiring the lake scenery and enjoying refreshing sauna drinks.

Light sauna snacks can be arranged. For a full dining experience, groups can also reserve the Jätkänkämppä Lodge restaurant for private use and enjoy a traditional buffet dinner.
